How to Ensure an Email Hits Your Primary Inbox Every Time
We’ve all been there: you subscribe to an awesome newsletter (like The Chaos), only to have it vanish into the abyss of spam or promotional folders. You don’t want that. And neither do we. There are simple steps to preventing this. Here’s a quick guide to safelisting emails on all major platforms—so you never miss another newsletter.
Gmail:
Option 1: Add to Contacts from the Email
Open the email in your inbox.
Hover over the sender's name until a pop-up window appears.
Click the "Add to Contacts" icon to save the sender to your list.
Option 2: Add Without Opening the Email
Hover over the sender’s name in the inbox.
Click "More" in the pop-up window.
Select "Add to Contacts" to save the sender.
Apple Mail:
Select "Mail" > "Preferences" from the top menu.
In the Preferences window, click the "Rules" icon and then "Add Rule."
In the Rules window:
Give the rule a name in the "Description" field and set the condition to: "If any of the following conditions are met: From Contains."
Enter the sender’s email address in the field and set the action to: "Move Message" > "Inbox."
Click "OK" to save.
Outlook:
Option 1: Add as a Contact
Click the "People" icon in the lower-left corner.
Select "Add a Contact."
Enter the sender’s name and email.
Click "Create" to save.
Option 2: Use Junk Email Settings
Click the "Settings" icon and select "View All Outlook Settings."
Navigate to "Mail" > "Junk Email."
Under "Safe Senders and Domains," click "Add."
Enter the sender’s email address and hit Enter.
Click "Save" to finish.
Yahoo! Mail:
Log into your Yahoo! account and click the "Contacts" icon.
At the bottom of the sidebar menu, click "Add a New Contact."
Enter a name and the sender's email address in the provided fields.
Click "Save" to add the contact.
AOL:
Open your account and locate the "Contacts" icon in the lower-left corner.
Click "Add New Contact."
Enter the sender’s name and email address. Add any extra details you’d like.
Hit "Add Contact" to save.
